Why the room needs them.
Amy Oldenburg spoke at Proof of Talk Paris 2026 on the Hecto Main Stage panel about who controls institutional access when markets move onchain, four months into a firmwide digital asset strategy post that Morgan Stanley created in January 2026. She reached it from the inside, after a career at the same firm that began in 2001 and ran mostly through emerging markets equity. Her public argument through 2026 was that tokenisation is a mechanism rather than a goal, and that nothing the bank ships is worth shipping unless it scales.
What Amy believes about the next ten years.
Years of shipping.
Lines that keep proving correct.
“Tokenization is not the goal. It's the mechanism that we need to get into to start to build more of the value add that's out there.”
“The digital asset trend has shifted from a focus solely on cryptocurrencies, like Bitcoin and Ethereum, to exploring the tokenization of all assets.”
“We are still so early on this journey. So little allocation. It's still really early.”
What they have built, written, and backed.
Built
- Morgan Stanley's digital asset strategy functionThe firmwide head of digital asset strategy post was created and handed to her, with the appointment reported on 27 January 2026. Her April 2026 conference biography describes the remit as building and connecting the firm's digital asset capabilities, engaging with industry consortiums and working across the business units.
- Two decades in emerging markets equityShe joined Morgan Stanley in 2001 and spent the next two decades in emerging markets equity, with earlier roles in equity and FX trading, portfolio management support, and product development and strategy. She was chief operating officer of the business and led the team from November 2021, tasked, Cointelegraph reported, with driving its digital asset strategy.
- Tokenised equities on the firm's own venueAt the Digital Asset Summit in New York on 24 March 2026 she told a panel that Morgan Stanley's alternative trading system, which handles listed stocks, ETFs and American depositary receipts, would allow certain securities to be issued and settled in tokenised form alongside their conventional counterparts in the second half of 2026. She described a plan, not a live product.
- Firmwide Innovation Council and an outside board seatHer April 2026 Paris Blockchain Week biography lists a seat on Morgan Stanley's Firmwide Innovation Council and an independent directorship at Abhi, a fintech company based in the UAE.
