Anthony Bassili

President, Coinbase Asset Management

Runs Coinbase's asset management arm, and has spent 2025 and 2026 moving credit strategies and fund share classes onto public blockchains.

The Significance

Why the room needs them.

Anthony Bassili is President of Coinbase Asset Management, the Coinbase-owned manager behind the Coinbase Bitcoin Yield Fund and a stablecoin credit partnership with Apollo. He joined Coinbase in 2022 as head of pensions, hired from BlackRock's iShares US pensions team. At Proof of Talk Paris 2026 he spoke on the Hecto Main Stage panel about stablecoins, credit and tokenisation.

The Thesis · on the record

What Anthony believes about the next ten years.

01
Tokenised funds have to clear the bar traditional funds clear
In Apex Group's March 2026 announcement of a tokenised share class for the Coinbase Bitcoin Yield Fund, he said tokenised fund infrastructure "has finally arrived and is ready to scale" and "needs to meet the same regulatory and operational standards investors expect from traditional markets". His stated route to that is writing identity and eligibility checks into the token itself, through the ERC-3643 permissioned standard, so that the compliance stack survives the move on-chain.
02
Stablecoin rails reach credit that traditional portfolios cannot
Announcing Coinbase Asset Management's partnership with Apollo in October 2025, he said the global stablecoin ecosystem, operating 24/7 on blockchain rails, "creates opportunities not available in traditional private credit portfolios". The partnership set out three lines of work: over-collateralised asset lending, corporate direct lending and tokenised credit holdings.
03
Five routes off a zero allocation
"It's time for investors to Get Off Zero", published in August 2025 under his byline as President of Coinbase Asset Management with Marcel Kasumovich as contributing author, proposes five ways an investor holding no crypto can arrive at some. Most start with a passive Bitcoin allocation, the paper says, and it puts a 5% allocation forward while stating that this is not the only way.

In Their Words

Lines that keep proving correct.

Tokenized fund infrastructure has finally arrived and is ready to scale. It needs to meet the same regulatory and operational standards investors expect from traditional markets. The Coinbase Bitcoin Yield Fund's tokenized share class shows that you can bring real-world assets onchain while preserving the full compliance stack. By integrating identity and eligibility at the token level, this structure lays important groundwork for scalable, institutional-grade digital distribution.
