The Biography

The full account.

Chris Cox is Head of Investor Services at Citi, the title under which Citi quoted Cox in press releases dated 26 February and 20 July 2026. Citi named Cox to the role in March 2025, with responsibility for the custody, fund services and execution services businesses. Cox had previously been Citi's Global Head of Trade and Working Capital Solutions, a role taken up in December 2021. Earlier Citi roles included heading EMEA Securities Services, serving as Global Head of Data, Digitalisation and Strategic Projects for Securities Services, and responsibility for Citi's EMEA Equities business. Around a third of Cox's career has been spent overseas, with assignments in Japan, Singapore and Australia, where Cox ran Citi's Australia and New Zealand Markets business between 2008 and 2014. Cox began in the Salomon Brothers investment banking division in 1991, with product experience in debt capital markets and structuring. Cox was the business sponsor behind the creation of Proxymity and its spin-out from Citigroup, and has since stepped back from a board membership. Cox holds a first-class master's degree in mechanical engineering from Imperial College.

In a September 2025 Citi release on the post-trade industry, Cox said firms worldwide were converging on the same core themes, from accelerated settlement to automation in asset servicing, and that Citi was "not just observing these shifts." In February 2026 BlackRock appointed Citi Investor Services to deliver middle-office functions for US-domiciled iShares ETFs on the Aladdin platform, and Cox called expanding those capabilities "central to our ambitions to grow market share with global asset managers." Announcing Custody+, a modular suite of near- and real-time custody services, as reported in August 2026, Cox said Citi's Services business invests over US$2 billion a year in its platform strategy.

Cox spoke at Proof of Talk Paris 2026 as a panellist on "Where Stablecoins Meet Credit: Rewiring Finance Through Tokenisation", a Hecto Main Stage session on Day 2, 3 June 2026, at the Musée des Arts Décoratifs, Louvre Palace. The panel was shared with Anthony Bassili, Francesco Filia and Maha Al-Saadi, and moderated by Michael del Castillo.

The Thesis · on the record

What Chris believes about the next ten years.

01
One converging shift, not separate trends
Cox has said accelerated settlement, automation in asset servicing and shareholder governance are themes on which firms worldwide are converging, and that Citi is not just observing the move toward T+1, digital assets and GenAI but helping clients act on it.
02
Platform investment as the proof
Cox has pointed to Custody+ as an example of Citi's Services business investing over US$2 billion a year in its platform strategy, describing it as infrastructure built to eliminate latency and drag for institutional investor clients.
03
Growing share with asset managers
Cox has described expanding Citi's ETF and middle-office servicing capabilities as central to its ambitions to grow market share with global asset managers.

In Their Words

Lines that keep proving correct.

From accelerated settlements to automation in asset servicing, and increased shareholder participation and governance, the collective vision of firms worldwide is converging on the same core themes. The industry is at the cusp of significant change as market participants intensify their focus on T+1, accelerate the adoption of digital assets, and implement GenAI across their operations. At Citi, we are not just observing these shifts. We are actively empowering our clients to seize opportunities and deliver value through the strategic deployment of our digital and data solutions.
