The Thesis · on the record

What Eleanor believes about the next ten years.

01
Sources first, speed second
Asked in a September 2020 interview how journalists should deal with misinformation on social platforms, Terrett said knowing your sources is always a good place to start: Twitter is excellent for fast information but difficult to verify, so young journalists should build a solid base of sources early enough that there is always someone reliable to turn to.
02
The job is framing
Speaking in the same interview as Fox Business's New York Stock Exchange producer, she described her job as a producer and writer as framing the information in a way that is both clear and interesting. The formulation is about presentation and craft, not commentary.
03
Crypto policy is a Washington beat
Her first Crypto In America newsletter, on 12 March 2025, defined the publication as scoops, breaking news and in-depth analysis at the intersection of Web3 and Washington. The archive since has been reporting on Congress, the SEC and the CFTC rather than argument about them.

Crypto In America, first newsletter post, 12 March 2025

I think knowing your sources is always a good place to start. While Twitter is excellent for fast information, it can be difficult to verify sources, which increases the risk of misinformation. Young journalists should start building up a solid base of sources early on so they always have someone to turn to for reliable information.
