Emma Landriault

Head of Labs, Kinexys, J.P. Morgan

Emma Landriault’s documented work concerns the controls and infrastructure required for regulated payment tokens and institutional activity on public blockchains.

The Significance

Why the room needs them.

Head of Labs at Kinexys and a co-author of MIT DCI and J.P. Morgan research on payment tokens, Emma Landriault focuses on public-blockchain infrastructure for regulated financial institutions.

The Thesis · on the record

What Emma believes about the next ten years.

01
Compliance, finality and privacy shape institutional infrastructure
Landriault directly identified compliance, legal and technical finality, and privacy as three key considerations in infrastructure decisions for institutional users.
02
Token-based finance must accommodate treasury operations
Landriault said that institutions moving significant liquidity on-chain still have treasury requirements such as pooling, sweeps and repo activity.
03
Atomic settlement can reduce counterparty risk
Landriault described atomicity as assets and cash moving simultaneously and immediately, reducing and potentially removing counterparty risk.

In Their Words

Lines that keep proving correct.

I'm Emma Landriault, head of Labs at Kinexys, which is J.P. Morgan's blockchain business, where I look after our public blockchain efforts.

So for institutional users, compliance, so ensuring they're meeting AML obligations, KYC obligations, sanction obligations, finality, both legal finality and a new thing to navigate in this world, technical finality, right? And privacy are three really key drivers for any infrastructure decisions.

It's such an exciting time. And I think the key word for those listening is atomicity, right? This idea that assets and cash will move simultaneously and instantly because that will reduce, if not completely remove counterparty risk.

The Body of Work

What they have built, written, and backed.

Built

  • Payment-token research and prototypeLandriault co-authored the May 2025 MIT Digital Currency Initiative and Kinexys by J.P. Morgan research on regulated payment-token design. MIT DCI states that the joint team researched and developed a prototype. The companion code is a demonstrator that has not received a security audit and is not production-ready.
