James Wo is the founder and chief executive of Digital Finance Group (DFG), a digital asset investment firm founded in 2015. CoinDesk, reporting on 6 June 2026, described the firm as managing more than 100 portfolio entities with over $1 billion in total assets under management.
He spoke at Proof of Talk Paris 2026 as founder and chief executive of Digital Finance Group, on a Day 2 panel on the Taostats Stage on 3 June 2026 titled "Web3 Venture in 2026: What Still Gets Funded". Keli Callaghan, Andy Tang and Leeor Groen shared the panel, which Marc Baumann moderated.
According to CoinDesk, Wo began watching classmates trade bitcoin during the 2014 bear market before entering the sector himself. As the 2016 bull market developed, he diversified DFG's balance sheet into alternative layer-1 protocols, becoming an early venture participant in ecosystems including Solana, Polkadot and Near. He also directed early-stage corporate investments into consumer applications and Web3 infrastructure, including a $10 million allocation into Circle's USDC stablecoin project in January 2018.
In June 2020, Khaleej Times reported that Matrix Exchange Ltd, of which Wo was then chairman, had been licensed in the Abu Dhabi Global Market to operate a multilateral trading facility and custody platform for virtual assets.
Speaking to CoinDesk at Proof of Talk in Paris, in an interview published on 6 June 2026, Wo set out a view on bitcoin that was cautious on timing and confident over a longer horizon. He said a 50% correction would put the bottom at around $60,000 to $62,000, and that he expected a new all-time high in 2027 or 2028, with a peak of roughly $125,000. He argued that bitcoin has a consensus among early backers, crypto participants and traditional finance that ether lacks, telling the outlet: "I don't think Ethereum is there yet." He added that he did not expect ether to reach a new all-time high, and said he firmly believed bitcoin would outperform both the Chinese and US stock markets.
