In a July 2026 interview, Jody Mettler argued that digital-asset custody is a loss leader that cannot sustain a standalone business and matters as the base for a fuller financial stack.

The full account.
Jody Mettler is Chief Operating Officer of BitGo Holdings, Inc., the digital-asset infrastructure company listed on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker BTGO, and President of BitGo Bank & Trust, N.A. According to BitGo's final IPO prospectus, dated January 2026, she has served as Chief Operating Officer since September 2021 and as President of BitGo Trust since August 2022. Before joining BitGo, she spent 22 years in various roles at Citibank, including Senior Vice President of Operations and Transformation and Director of Global Service and Operations Transformation. The same filing states that she studied Accounting and Business Management at the University of South Dakota.
In December 2025, the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency gave full approval for BitGo Trust Company, Inc., a South Dakota-chartered trust company, to convert into BitGo Bank & Trust, National Association, a federally chartered national trust bank. BitGo's announcement quoted Mettler as its President. BitGo priced its initial public offering at $18 per share, and its shares began trading on the NYSE on 22 January 2026.
In a July 2026 interview with The Big Whale, Mettler described custody as "a loss leader: you need it to participate in everything else, but the margins alone don't sustain a standalone business," and said companies building a full financial stack on top of custody are essential to that ecosystem. She said she expected more mergers and acquisitions in custody over the next two to three years. She did not view Fireblocks or Ledger as direct competitors, citing BitGo's fully vaulted, fully offline custody. She attributed the company's pace on compliance to a deliberate decision, taken five or six years earlier, to hire people with both traditional-finance and crypto-native backgrounds.
Mettler spoke at Proof of Talk Paris 2026 as Chief Operating Officer of BitGo. The invitation-only executive summit, organised by X Ventures, was held on 2–3 June 2026 at the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in the Louvre Palace. On 2 June, she was a panellist on "Privacy and Compliance: Two Sides of the Same Coin" on the Taostats Stage, alongside James Smith, Jens Hachmeister and Dr. Saj Khoshroo, in a session moderated by Nicola Massella.
