The full account.
Joseph Lubin is a previous Proof of Talk speaker, an Ethereum co-founder and the founder of the business originally known as Consensys Software Inc. His current roles are Executive Chairman of Consensys and Chairman and CEO of MetaMask. Those titles reflect the company reorganisation announced on 9 September 2026, rather than the earlier Founder and CEO billing associated with Consensys.
The announcement separated two areas of work. MetaMask became the focus of the existing corporation, serving consumers through its self-custodial financial platform. The protocols and institutional infrastructure business, including Linea, became a newly formed company carrying the Consensys name. The companies said they were operating independently from the announcement date, with completion of the separation expected by the end of 2026. The profile distinguishes that operating change from a completed corporate separation.
Independent accounts by ETH Daily and Blockchain Stories corroborated Lubin’s roles in the two businesses. They described MetaMask’s consumer focus alongside Consensys’ work with protocols, companies and financial institutions. For Lubin, the reorganisation places responsibility for the consumer platform alongside an executive chairmanship of the business continuing the institutional Ethereum work.
In his dated MetaMask article explaining the change, Lubin described his product ambition through direct control of financial assets. He framed the platform as a place to hold, move and use money across blockchain-based services, with self-custody underlying the design. This is his stated direction for the business, rather than a claim that every proposed capability is already available. The article also explained that existing users did not need to change their application access, assets or keys because of the announcement.
His work therefore spans two connected parts of the Ethereum ecosystem: the interfaces people use to manage assets and the infrastructure organisations use to build financial services. That combination provides current professional context for a member of Proof of Talk’s previous-speaker community.
The next Proof of Talk is in Abu Dhabi.
Louvre Abu Dhabi, 3–4 December 2026. Admission is by application, and the room is capped at 2,000.
