The Biography

The full account.

Julien Clausse is Head of AssetFoundry at BNP Paribas CIB, the bank's digital assets and tokenisation platform. He spoke at Proof of Talk Paris 2026 as Head of AssetFoundry, BNP Paribas CIB, on "The Tokenisation of Everything: RWAs, Institutions, and the Next Market Structure", a panel on the Hecto Main Stage on 3 June 2026, the summit's second day. John Nahas, Joseph Bruzzesi and Nenter Chow shared the panel, which Yana Prikhodchenko moderated.

Clausse joined BNP Paribas CIB in February 2018 as Head of IT Digital Accelerator, then headed an internal exploration engineering unit from January 2020 until taking charge of AssetFoundry in September 2022. Before the bank, he worked at Amadeus IT Group, as Head of Open Innovation from May 2015 and Head of Moonshot Innovation from November 2016 to January 2018, and taught creativity for business at SKEMA Business School from October 2016 to October 2018. He holds a degree from CentraleSupélec and is based in Paris.

In February 2026, BNP Paribas Asset Management issued a tokenised share class of a French-domiciled money market fund on the public Ethereum network under a permissioned-access model. Clausse was quoted saying the AssetFoundry platform "delivers key digital-assets capabilities, from tokenisation to network connectivity and wallet-related functionalities within a controlled setup". The Big Whale also records AssetFoundry work on tokenising financing in the unlisted bond market, aimed at transactions below €20 million.

In a May 2026 interview with The Big Whale, Clausse said the bank is focused on the tokenisation of financial instruments, having tested project finance, debt and money market fund formats and taken part in the European Central Bank's experiments on wholesale central bank digital currencies. He named on-chain atomic settlement as the source of most added value at this stage, for its speed and the removal of operational settlement risk, while stressing that blockchain does not remove counterparty risk. He described tokenisation as several markets forming by asset class rather than a single one, and said a billion-dollar bond settlement would be done in central bank money rather than in stablecoin.

The Thesis · on the record

What Julien believes about the next ten years.

01
Settlement is where tokenisation pays first
In a May 2026 interview with The Big Whale, Clausse named on-chain atomic settlement as the main source of added value at this stage, for its speed and the removal of operational settlement risk, and said cost reduction would probably come over time rather than immediately.
02
Blockchain does not remove counterparty risk
Clausse said much of the bank's learning from tokenisation experiments concerns legal questions such as the responsibilities of each actor, and that there is always a counterparty guaranteeing the asset recorded on the network.
03
Tokenisation is several markets, not one
Clausse compared tokenisation to the early internet, arguing that markets are forming by asset class, with different clients, systems and regulations, and that composability between assets on the same network could open new value propositions.
04
Large settlements will run on central bank money
Clausse said each form of on-chain cash suits different use cases, and that a billion-dollar bond settlement would be done in central bank money rather than stablecoin because it comes down to counterparty risk.

In Their Words

Lines that keep proving correct.

A billion-dollar bond settlement is unlikely to be done in stablecoin.

The Big Whale, interview by Grégory Raymond, 19 May 2026

Blockchain does not eliminate these issues. There is always a counterparty, an entity that guarantees the asset recorded on the network.

We may be less vocal than others, but we build.
