Mathew McDermott is a previous Proof of Talk speaker and Global Head of Digital Assets at Goldman Sachs. His remit sits within the bank’s work on blockchain technology, tokenized assets and services for institutional clients. In Goldman Sachs’ published discussions of digital asset adoption, he has addressed how financial firms are moving from experimentation toward using digital infrastructure in established markets, alongside growing interest in stablecoins and tokenization.
That work includes GS DAP, Goldman Sachs’ digital asset platform. In July 2025, Goldman Sachs and BNY announced a solution that connects BNY’s money market fund subscription and redemption services with tokens representing the value of fund shares on GS DAP. BNY retained the official books, records and settlement responsibilities for the funds. The announcement described potential future uses for the tokens as collateral and for transferability; those objectives were distinct from the functions available at launch.
In June 2026, a separate real estate fund collaboration brought together Goldman Sachs, Apex Group, Archax, LRC Group and Ownera. Fund shares were tokenized using GS DAP, with LRC Group managing the investments, Archax providing custody and initial distribution, Apex supplying fund services and Ownera connecting participants and distribution channels. McDermott was identified in the partners’ announcement as Goldman Sachs’ Global Head of Digital Assets. The structure illustrates the operational relationships needed around blockchain issuance, including administration, custody and investor servicing.
McDermott has also discussed institutional demand for crypto-linked products, including derivatives, in independent interviews. Taken together, those activities span both access to digital asset markets and the use of blockchain in existing financial products. His professional perspective is relevant to how banks, fund managers and infrastructure providers organize that transition, with the roles of each participant remaining central to how a tokenized product operates.
