The full account.
Robby Yung is CEO of Investments at Animoca Brands, the digital entertainment and blockchain company formed in Hong Kong by Yat Siu and David Kim. Animoca's leadership page lists Yung in that role alongside co-founder and executive chairman Yat Siu and group president Evan Auyang, and Paris Blockchain Week billed Yung with the same title and company in April 2026.
Yung's career began in telecoms. After moving to Hong Kong in the 1990s, Yung worked for Metromedia during the mobile telecoms boom and, according to Cointelegraph Magazine, led moves into emerging markets of the former Soviet Union, spending time in Russia, Georgia and Kazakhstan. Yung then ran an internet service provider in southern China, turned it into a web development business and closed it in 2001. By Yung's own account, the following decade was spent on media businesses in China, two of which Yung took to IPO, "one successful, and the other not so successful".
Yung met Siu around 1997 to 1998 and later joined Animoca, recalling having set the company strategy for 2012, taken the company to a Series B raise and then taken it public in 2015, before "Brands" was added to its name. An Animoca announcement of 7 October 2021 said Yung had served as chief executive of Animoca Brands since 2014, and named Yung chief executive of the company's North American operations, in a set of senior appointments that also made Siu group executive chairman and managing director and Auyang group president. Yung has been based in London since 2019, according to Cointelegraph Magazine, which in September 2024 put Animoca's portfolio at more than 540 investments in Web3 projects.
In interviews, Yung has ranked the team as the most important thing when assessing a project, and has argued that NFT marketplaces must honour creator royalties.
Yung spoke at Proof of Talk Paris 2026 on 3 June 2026, as a panellist on the Taostats Stage in the session "How Tokenised Markets Create New Opportunities for Investors", alongside Mashal Waqar, Gregg Bell and Matt O'Connor. The session was moderated by Sheraz Ahmed.
