Sunand Raghupathi

Co-Founder & CEO, Veda

Sunand Raghupathi argues that most users will reach onchain yield through the exchanges and brokerage apps they already trust, rather than by going directly onchain themselves.

The Biography

The full account.

Sunand Raghupathi, who appears in the press as Sun Raghupathi, is co-founder and chief executive of Veda, a company that builds DeFi vault infrastructure. Genfinity identified him as Veda's chief executive on 14 September 2026. Veda was founded in early 2024, and its own site lists Joseph Terrigno as co-founder and chief technology officer. Its BoringVault framework underpins yield products including EtherFi's Liquid, according to the company's June 2025 funding announcement.

A December 2024 release from Seven Seas Capital, which billed Raghupathi as its co-founder and chief executive, said the team had first built vaults on Somm Finance before launching Veda. The release announced an ETH DeFi Yield Fund whose stated objective, in Raghupathi's words, was to "turn ETH into more ETH."

In June 2025, Veda announced an $18 million round led by CoinFund, with Coinbase Ventures, GSR and Maelstrom among the participants, and reported more than $3.7 billion in total value locked and more than 100,000 active depositors.

Raghupathi spoke at Proof of Talk Paris 2026 as co-founder and chief executive of Veda, on the Taostats Stage panel "Institutional Yield in Crypto: From Bitcoin Strategies to Onchain Vaults" on 2 June 2026, alongside Karl Naim, Dr. Martin Derka and Evan Feng, in a session moderated by Travis Hayes. The Block reported that Veda made an announcement at the event: developers building on Privy, which provides embedded crypto wallets, would gain access to the vault stack behind Kraken DeFi Earn, a reach of more than 2,000 developer teams. Until then, according to the report, Veda's vaults had reached the market through one-off institutional integrations, and Kraken DeFi Earn had drawn more than $250 million in deposits in under four months. Raghupathi also told The Block that Veda had recently hired Alberto Cuesta Cañada, a co-author of the ERC-4626 tokenised vault standard who previously led security at Optimism, as vice-president of onchain security.

In the same interview, Raghupathi argued that users will reach onchain yield through apps they already trust, such as exchanges and brokerage accounts, rather than by going directly onchain. He called security his top priority and said regulation is important for the category to succeed. In August 2026, Crypto Briefing reported his warning that onchain vaults are structurally closer to hedge funds than to savings products.

The Thesis · on the record

What Sunand believes about the next ten years.

01
Yield arrives through trusted apps
Raghupathi told The Block in June 2026 that the idea of onboarding the next billion users directly onchain would not materialise, and that users will instead access yield products through apps they already trust, such as exchanges like Kraken or brokerage accounts.
02
Security first
Raghupathi told The Block in June 2026 that naming anything other than security as his top priority would destroy his credibility, framing it as a question of survival for the category.
03
Regulation as a condition of success
In the same June 2026 interview, Raghupathi said regulation is important for the onchain vault category to succeed.
04
Vaults are not savings accounts
Crypto Briefing reported in August 2026 Raghupathi's view that onchain vaults are structurally closer to hedge funds than to savings products.

In Their Words

Lines that keep proving correct.

If I said anything other than security is my top priority, I think it would just destroy my credibility

The Block, 2 June 2026

In my opinion, regulation is actually really important for this category to succeed

The Block, 2 June 2026

Any team building on Privy can now offer their users the same vault infrastructure that the biggest platforms in crypto use every day.
