Xen Baynham-Herd
Head of Growth, Base
Baynham-Herd has argued that Base should grow by bringing new people onchain rather than competing for users who are already there.
Why the room needs them.
Xen Baynham-Herd, a growth executive at Base, Coinbase's layer-2 network, spoke at Proof of Talk Paris 2026. He previously co-founded and led Roam.xyz, whose founders joined Coinbase in 2025, and spent five years at Blockchain.com.

Xen Baynham-Herd works on growth at Base, Coinbase's layer-2 network. Titles published for him have shifted: Decrypt called him Head of Global Builders in October 2025, CoinsPaid Media and Cryptonews called him Head of Global Growth in December 2025, Thinking Crypto called him Head of Growth on 4 June 2026, and The Index podcast described him as Head of Marketing & Global Growth on 29 June 2026.
He spoke at Proof of Talk Paris 2026 as Director of Growth at Base, the billing in the event programme, delivering a ten-minute keynote titled "Base Announcement" on the Taostats Stage on 3 June 2026, the summit's second day. He took the slot alone, with no co-speakers listed.
Before Base, Baynham-Herd was chief executive of Roam.xyz, which described itself as "The Onchain Browser & Search Engine" and which he co-founded with Ali Fathalian and John Granata. In January 2025 the three co-founders announced they were joining Coinbase and winding down the Roam app, saying Coinbase was where they could have the biggest impact building products for a new open financial system.
Earlier, he began his career as a summer analyst at JPMorgan in London and later worked as a director in the group asset liability management team at UBS, according to CoinDesk. He then spent five years at Blockchain.com, leaving in February 2022 as Global Head of Asset Management.
In a December 2025 interview with CoinsPaid Media, he described Base in three layers: the chain as infrastructure, the Base app as the consumer interface and Base Build as the developer toolkit. He said growth for Base means "expanding the total pie, not fighting for existing users", and that Base had country leads in more than 16 countries supporting more than 25 countries. He set out four factors he said builders weigh when choosing a chain: ease of building, access to users, access to capital and the strength of the network. In a Cryptonews profile the same month, he was reported as saying that real traction shows in user growth and app engagement rather than in whether a coin's price is rising.
What Xen believes about the next ten years.
Years of shipping.
Lines that keep proving correct.
“Base is an open stack for a global on-chain economy. Think of it in three layers: the Base chain as the infrastructure, the Base app as the consumer-facing interface, and Base Build as the developer toolkit.”
“Growth for Base means expanding the total pie, not fighting for existing users. That's a harder strategy, but it's the only one that leads to mass adoption.”
“The last five years at Blockchain.com have been an incredible journey. Now that it's time to move on, I leave knowing the company is well on its way to execute its mission of bringing crypto to the world.”
